Last post on Palm Springs before I create a new IG Last post on Palm Springs before I create a new IG guide... Moorten Botanical Garden is located near Downtown Palm Springs and a great place for all ages. My kids loved exploring the different plant life of the desert and also visited a few resident tortoises. Admission is $5/adult, $2/child (ages 15 and under) and free for children under 5. With the current stay at home order in California, the garden is currently closed but save this post for a future trip. While it was nothing like we planned, we still ended up having a great time. 🔹️ Rang in the New Year at @semiahmooresort in Blaine, Washington 🔹️ Mother-daughter trip to Austin in the end of January (the last flight I took!) 🔹️ Tiny house glamping at @windsorfamilyfarm 🔹️ Road trip to Southern Utah to see Zion National Park and a few amazing state parks 🔹️ Drove up to the Mendocino Coast to stay at @bbryanpreserve where we met some 🦒 🔹️Parents only getaway to Napa to do an exotic car driving experience 🔹️ Stayed along the Russian River in Sonoma County at the gorgeous @luckybendlookout vacation rental 🔹️ Visited Yosemite National Park and stayed at @epic_alpacas 🔹️ One last road trip to Solvang and then onto Palm Springs where we visited Joshua Tree National Park All in all, a great year. While we miss air travel, it was nice to get to see our own backyard for a change! Winter in Palm Springs, California is dreamy with Winter in Palm Springs, California is dreamy with weather at the exact perfect temperature for outdoor activities. One of our stops was to Indian Canyons and it did not disappoint. Where: ☑ only about 10 minutes from Downtown Palm Springs inside the land belonging to the Agua Caliente Band of the Cahuilla Indians. What to do with kids: ☑ The Andreas Canyon hike is an easy 1.2 miles. My older kids did great and our toddler was in a hiking backpack. Start on the more hilly side of the loop (left side if you're looking at a map) to end up walking along the river towards the end. ☑ Feeling more ambitious? Murray Canyon (4.7 miles), Victor (2.7 miles) and Dry Wash (6.6 miles) are all rated moderate. ☑ There are picnic tables near the river so consider packing a lunch or snack to enjoy. ☑ We brought water shoes for the kids. HOURS: 8am - 5pm daily (last car entry at 4pm) FEES: $9/adult, $5/child (ages 5-12). Discounted rates for seniors, students and military. While better known for camping and rock climbing, there is still lots of fun to had with kids in tow. What to do with kids in Joshua Tree National Park: ☑ Grab a picnic lunch and enjoy it alongside the amazing landscape. ☑ Lots of kid-friendly rocks to climb on. Hidden Valley and Barker Dam had some great options. ☑ So many hiking options. A few of the easier ones: Barker Dam, Cottonwood Spring, Hidden Valley and Skull Rock. One of the reasons that Palm Springs was decided a One of the reasons that Palm Springs was decided as our Thanksgiving break destination was the hotel. Normally, as a family of 5, we opt for a house rental but the Omni came through with a spacious family suite plus its own water park for hotel guests! We had a great time #attheomni 🌴 What to know: 🚩The hotel is located in Rancho Mirage about 30 minutes from Palm Springs proper. 🚩A super family-friendly hotel - almost all guests we saw had children in tow. 🚩Splashtopia (the water park) is open daily from 9am-5pm (closed for midday cleaning). It uses a wristband system and allocates windows of time to guests. You can also reserve a private cabana for the day. 🚩 While Splashtopia has the lazy river, water slides, splash pad and sandpit, there are also two other pools at the property. 🚩 We felt very safe here - hand sanitizer everywhere, masks required, outdoor dining and the pool area frequently cleaned. We stopped by @ostrichland during our stay in @solvangusa and it was such a good time for the whole family. Where it's located: 🚩Located in Buellton, California which is just off Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County. What to know: ☑ Open 9am-5pm daily (winter hours) ☑ General admission is $5/adult, $2/child (12 & under). You can book online or buy at the gate. They do accept credit card. ☑ $1/bowl of food - you'll want at least one per person. It is really fun!
