Visiting Sculpterra Winery in Paso Robles with Kids

You do not often think of wineries and kids being a good mix. Every so often, you may see “kids welcome” on a winery website but, upon arrival, you feel out of place. When I received multiple recommendations about Sculpterra Winery in Paso Robles, California as good for kids, I knew I had to check it out. Everyone assured me it was truly family friendly and they were all 100% right: Sculpterra Winery in Paso Robles is indeed enjoyable with kids!

The Details about Sculpterra Winery

Sculpterra Winery is located at 5105 Linne Road, Paso Robles, California 93446.

It is a 15 minute drive from Downtown City Park in Paso Robles. Ample, free parking and stroller/wheelchair friendly.

Open daily from 10am – 5pm.

Will my kids be bored at Sculpterra?

There was so much to see and do that my kids never once complained in the few hours we spent at Sculpterra Winery. Upon arrival, we snagged a picnic table next to a grassy area in the front garden. We could easily sit down and give the kids a little bit of space to explore without bothering any other parties.

The property’s name indicates the presence of sculptures and that is on point! My kids loved marveling at the variety of statues around the gardens which made for a fun way to explore while keeping them engaged. Younger kids will love looking at them. Consider giving older kids an old smart phone to take some pictures of the gorgeous art.

There is also an area with a few games including bocce ball, table tennis, checkers and foosball.

And, rest assured, you will not be the only family with kids. I would say about half the guests on the busy Saturday we went had children and the other half had a dog. Add in a few bachelorette parties there for a quick tasting and it is a good mix of people.

When should I visit?

While I usually heavily endorse weekday visits, this is one spot where I actually recommend going on a weekend. Most Saturdays and Sundays, you can find live music and a food truck onsite to provide entertainment and food. Sculpterra Winery opens at 10am but we got there for late morning (11-11:30am) and we had no issues finding parking and snagging a table. The food trucks usually start midday (12-12:30pm) and then live music begins around the same time.

Regarding time of year, Paso Robles has a mild climate which can be enjoyed year round. I would recommend a moderate winter day or spring over a scorching summer or early fall day but each season will bring its own charm.

Cleanliness and COVID?

We found that most every guest that was in a general area was wearing a mask. People were removing masks when they were at their group tables or distanced from others.

There are a variety of tables (wood and metal) and you could easily bring some Clorox wipes for an extra layer of cleanliness, although, we didn’t have any concerns. By coming on the earlier side, we were able to get a table that we believe had not yet been occupied which gave us extra reassurance. Hand sanitizer and bathrooms with soap were both readily available.

Do I need a reservation?

If you want to to do a tasting, you will need a reservation that can be booked via OpenTable.

Just want to enjoy a glass (or bottle) of wine? You can just turn up and make your purchase.

What to pack for a visit with kids…

What to pack for a visit to Sculpterra Winery with kids:

• Picnic blanket – in case tables are full or you have a baby/toddler where being on the ground is easier
• Water bottles
• Food – you can bring outside food or you can take advantage of the on-site food trucks on weekends (Choco’s Mexican Grill was our food option and a meal ran about $12)
• Hand sanitizer and wipes for any shared surfaces
• Sun protection items – sunscreen, hat and sunglasses so you can safely enjoy the sunshine
• Phone or camera – there are some great spots for photos!
• Planning to buy some bottles to bring home? Consider getting a reusable wine carrier to safely transport them.

Planning a weekend in Paso Robles is a great idea for any family with Sculpterra being one of your outings along the way.

• Blue Oak Ranch in Atascadero (3 bedroom / 2 bathroom house rental) – 15 minute drive to Paso Robles
• Stay in the beautiful beach community of Cambria – 40 minute drive to Paso Robles
• San Luis Obispo, which is about a 30 minute drive, will have hotels and vacation rentals at all price points
